An equity long/short fund seeking a positive return over the longer term irrespective of market conditions
A highly-experienced manager backed up by a strong investment team
Uses shorting techniques to try to profit from falling, as well as rising, share prices
The Artemis US Absolute Return Fund is an equity long/short fund. It aims to deliver a positive return over rolling three-year periods, irrespective of changing market conditions. To achieve this, it combines a traditional portfolio of long US stocks (where the manager expects a companys share price to rise) with a portfolio of short positions (where he aims to make money from an anticipated fall in a shares price). This allows manager Stephen Moore to profit from falling, as well as rising, share prices.(A short position is the sale of an asset which the fund does not physically own with the aim of buying it later to secure a profit. The fund uses derivatives to achieve a short position synthetically).
: long-only funds can seek to profit only from shares that are likely to rise in value. But this funds structure looks to profit from falling, as well as rising, share prices.
: the Artemis US equity team has a tested investment process, with research drawing on multiple information sources.
: manager Stephen Moore takes a flexible, practical approach to stock-picking, adapting the funds investment style across ups and downs in the economy and stockmarket.
