Earlier a multi-cap offering (Kotak Opportunities), it is now a large and mid-cap fund. While it had a higher large-cap focus in its earlier avatar, the fund has now sharply hiked its presence in mid-caps to align with the revised mandate. However, its top bets are mostly frontline index heavyweights. The mid-cap exposure has been beefed up at the mid-level of the portfolio. Further, the fund manager emphasises on sufficient liquidity in the mid-cap portion. He prefers companies that can generate consistent cash flows, have proven business models with efficient management and are available at reasonable prices. The funds performance has been underwhelming in the past two years, but it has cushioned downside better than most peers recently. This provides comfort, given its long-term profile.
